Fall Decor: Pumpkins and Mums

Fall is here y'all and I could not be more excited! This is my favorite time of the year. There is a crispness to the mornings, the sun sets a little earlier, the leaves start to change, and I am finally not sweating through my clothes by 10:00 a.m! Everyone (especially in the hot south) seems to have a little extra bounce in their step when the weather cools off!

When the weather changes I immediately want to spruce up my porch and my shop a bit. Today I wanted to share some pictures with you of how easy (and inexpensive) it is to decorate for fall with potted mums and pumpkins, as well as things you may already have in your home.

These are quick and easy ways to add touches of fall to your porch, stoop or mantle. The important thing to remember is to mix all colors and sizes of your pumpkins and mums. This will make things a little more interesting! Also, don't be afraid to use several of each item in your grouping. Even if you are filling a small space, you want it to look full and inviting and don't want to greet your guests with one lonely pumpkin.
My friend Lisa will be hosting a few parties at her home this fall season so she was ready to spruce up! She has a beautiful back porch with a big brick fireplace and plenty of outdoor seating. You can see, we had her fixed up in no time with just 3 pumpkins and 3 mums.

I also put a faux leaf garland across the mantle and tied raffia on the ends. Raffia is a very inexpensive way to give the feeling of fall. You'll find it at any craft store. Tie it on your wreaths, mantles, pumpkins, and pot plants. You'll have instant touches of fall!

These are pictures of a mantle that I decorated at my shop. You can see that I am giving the feeling of fall with the colors of the items I've chosen but they are not “fall” décor items.

The topiaries can be used all year long. I changed the color of the tapor candels in the candlestick and pulled in some gold touches. I found the turkey management book at a thrift shop and thought it would be a cute nod to Thanksgiving.

The garland has red and orange berries along with pine cones. I added the extra orange berries and the raffia bows. After Thanksgiving, the orange berries can be removed and traded for something more festive and the bows can be changed to holiday ribbon.

I have included a few pictures I found on Pinterest with some great ideas of ways you can use pumpkins and mums to dress up the entrance to your home! So, head out to your local nursery and pumpkin patch and get to decorating!
